Kevin, you did a good job articulating your thoughts about your experience in EDU 533 and you did it succinctly! (Not one of my strong suits!) I totally agree that the students need to be active participants. I personally think Jr. High and HS teachers have a tougher time doing this than elementary but with technology, learning could become so much more meaningful to them. I don't believe technology should be used exclusively but as a tool, it can connect them with "real life" issues, problems to solve, and finding solutions that will work as they prepare for the real world. To do this, I think you're point about teachers being unfamiliar with technology is a main cause for not incorporating technology into the classroom but it can be overcome by professional development. I can say this from personal experience. This class has helped me learn and practice so I feel more confident and can incorporate those tools that will enhance my teaching. I'm sure it would do the same for others Well done!
Kevin, I agree that the use of technology provides an excellent opportunity for students to create and collaborate. These activities keep students engaged and encourage sustained active participation that " Sage on the Stage" teaching cannot! You articulated your opinions effectively, which is no easy task in 3 minutes or less.
